Wisconsin State poster revised to update Child Labor change.

The Wisconsin Child Labor poster has been updated to reflect certain occupations minors under 14 years of age are allowed to work subject to the same hour and day restrictions as minors who are 14 or 15 years of age.

Statutory language regarding this posting: Minors under 14 years of age are allowed to work in certain occupations (e.g., street trades, agriculture, and work in school lunch programs.) These minors are subject to the same hourly and time of day restrictions as minors who are 14 or 15 years of age.

Effective Date: January 2012
The new poster will be available January 20, 2012.

This is a mandatory change affecting all businesses in Wisconsin. All employers must update their posters.


Wisconsin OSHA & Right To Know Change

Wisconsin State poster revised to update OSHA and Right To Know change.

The Wisconsin OSHA and Right To Know public sector posters have been updated to reflect a transfer of authority from the Wisconsin Department of Commerce to the Department of Safety and Professional Services.

Statutory language regarding this posting: Under the Governor’s signed 2011 Assembly Bill 40 (state’s 2011-13 budget), the Act renames the agency to the Department of Safety and Professional Services.

Effective Date: December 2011
The new poster will be available December 21, 2011.

This is an industry-specific (public sector) mandatory change affecting businesses in Wisconsin.


Wisconsin Child Labor Change

Wisconsin State poster revised to update Child Labor change.

The Wisconsin Child Labor poster that was updated earlier this month was revised to reflect a clarification that minors 16 and 17 years of age who are employed after 11:00 pm must have 8 hours of rest between the end of one shift and the start of the next shift.

This information supplements the previous update which states that state and federal laws permit minors under the age of 16 to work except they may not be employed during hours of required school attendance. The maximum hours of work chart on the poster is limited to 14 and 15 year-old minors. The revised poster also covers the minimum wage for minors of $7.25 per hour, and the “opportunity wage” of $5.90 per hour for the first 90 days of employment.

Wisconsin State poster revised to update Child Labor change.

The Wisconsin Child Labor poster has been updated to reflect that state and federal laws permit minors under the age of 16 to work except they may not be employed during hours of required school attendance. The maximum hours of work chart on the poster is limited to 14 and 15 year-old minors. The revised poster also covers the minimum wage for minors of $7.25 per hour, and the “opportunity wage” of $5.90 per hour for the first 90 days of employment.

Statutory language regarding this posting: State and federal laws do not limit the hours that minors 16 years of age or over may work, except that they may not be employed or permitted to work hours of required school attendance under Wisconsin Stat. § 118.15. Minimum wage for minors is $7.25 per hour. Employers may pay an “Opportunity Wage” of $5.90 per hour for the first 90 days of employment. On the 91st day, the wage must increase to $7.25 per hour.

Effective Date: August 2011
The new poster will be available August 4, 2011.

Wisconsin Fair Employment

September 2, 2010

Wisconsin State poster revised to update Fair Employment change.

The Wisconsin Fair Employment poster has been updated to reflect a new protected category against discrimination. The State of Wisconsin, Equal Rights Division has added employees and job applicants who decline to attend a meeting or participate in any communication about religious or political matters can’t be discriminated against. This is a mandatory change.


Wisconsin No Smoking

July 15, 2010

Wisconsin State poster revised to update No Smoking change.

The Wisconsin Smoke-Free Air Law has been signed into law.  This legislation prohibits smoking in all workplaces, including restaurants. All employers are required to post “no-smoking” signs. This is a mandatory change.


Wisconsin Unemployment Insurance Change

April 19, 2010

Wisconsin State poster revised to update Unemployment Insurance change.

The Wisconsin Unemployment Insurance poster has been updated to reflect that a current/valid mailing address must be provided to receive important documents about a claim for unemployment benefits and to make sure the claimant has notified the post office of any recent changes to the claimants address. The agency has also updated the online application web page address and the web page for a complete listing of telephone service numbers and where to obtain additional information. This is a mandatory change.


Wisconsin FMLA Change

February 25, 2010

Wisconsin State poster revised to update FMLA change.

1/29/10 – The Wisconsin Family and Medical Leave Act poster was updated to reflect additional leave rights for employees. Employees are entitled to up to two weeks of leave to care for a parent of a domestic partner with a serious health condition. This is a mandatory change.
