Connecticut Fair Employment Poster Change

Connecticut State poster revised to update Fair Employment.

The Connecticut Fair Employment poster has been updated to clarify that discrimination is illegal in employment, housing and public accommodations, and credit transactions on the basis of gender identity or expression.

Statutory language regarding this posting:  “Gender identity or expression” means a person’s genderrelated identity, appearance or behavior, whether or not that genderrelated identity, appearance or behavior is different from that traditionally associated with the person’s physiology or assigned sex at birth, which gender-related identity can be shown by providing evidence including, but not limited to, medical history, care or treatment of the gender-related identity, consistent and uniform assertion of the gender-related identity or any other evidence that the gender-related identity is sincerely held, part of a person’s core identity or not being asserted for an improper purpose.

 Effective Date: April 2012

The new poster will be available May 4, 2012.

This is a mandatory change affecting all businesses in Connecticut. All employers must update their posters.


Connecticut Paid Sick Leave Change

Connecticut State poster revised to update Paid Sick Leave change.

New law requires certain Connecticut employers to notify employees of the new Connecticut Paid Sick Leave Law. Employers may satify this notification requirement by posting this poster in English and Spanish. Only certain employers are required to notify employees of this new law. Generally, it only applies to employers who have employees in certain service industries and who are non-exempt (hourly) employees from the FLSA. An employer must read the broad and detailed occupations and descriptions provided on the following websites; www.bls.gov/soc and http://www.ctdol.state.ct.us/wgwkstnd/SickLeaveGuidance.pdf to determine if they are covered.

Statutory language regarding this posting: Public Act #11-52, An Act Mandating Employers Provide Paid Sick Leave to Employees. Effective January 1, 2012. Each employer shall provide paid sick leave annually to each of such employer’s service workers in the state.

Effective Date: January 2012
The new poster will be available December 22, 2011.

Connecticut Fair Employment Change

Connecticut State poster revised to update Fair Employment change.

The Connecticut Fair Employment poster has been updated to reflect that Connecticut law prohibits discrimination on the basis of civil union status in employment, housing and public accommodations, and credit transactions. The Connecticut Commission on Human Rights has also renamed the category called “mental retardation” to “intellectual disability”. There was also a physical address change to the administrative office of the Connecticut Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities.

Statutory language regarding this posting: “Gender identity or expression” means a person’s gender-related identity, appearance or behavior, whether or not that gender-related identity, appearance or behavior is different from that traditionally associated with the person’s physiology or assigned sex at birth, which gender-related identity can be shown by providing evidence including, but not limited to, medical history, care or treatment of the gender-related identity, consistent and uniform assertion of the gender-related identity or any other evidence that the gender-related identity is sincerely held, part of a person’s core identity or not being asserted for an improper purpose.
